Throughout my career I have viewed leadership through many different lenses. I felt like I needed to work hard to “convince” someone to give me the authority to lead a group. Permission and/or authority do not make a leader.

(more…)Pattern of Personal Disruption
Last week my wife and I welcomed our 4th child into our family. Words cannot describe the special feeling I get adding a child to our family. My heart has been made bigger and it will take me a sometime to re-learn how to sleep.
What I’ve learned from this experience is actually a reminder of a pattern I’ve seen in my life multiple times. It is the most visible after the birth of each of our children.

I like to ask people about the books they are reading or some of their favorite books so I can expand my thinking and learn something new. One such recommendation came from Nicci Bosco, she runs ultra-marathons, and there is one book that she reads every time she is preparing for a big race.

“Daddy what does doubt mean?” This is a question my daughter recently asked me at the dinner table when my wife and I were teaching from scripture. So of course, I asked her “what do you think it means?” to gauge her understanding and invite her into the learning process rather than give her the answer.
