Light vs Dark

I am a deep believer in principle based leadership and decision making. There is no set of processes or approaches that can deal with every single context, but principles can guide our thinking and help us make wiser and better decisions.

For nearly 12 years at Microsoft I was looking for and seeking to discover the principles by which teams, business units, or entire organizations within Microsoft built sustaining impact. There is no one principle that fixes everything, but I have boiled down 12 years of observation into a simple four world principle.

Opposition in All Things

Junior high was a dark time for me in my life. I was young, didn’t feel confident in who I was, and was desperate to fit in and feel like I had friends. I felt depressed. Who I thought I should be was wildly different than what was being taught in my home. I was confused and frustrated.

Light Pollution

My wife and I have a fascination with the stars, the winter sky is our favorite. When we have a chance to stand outside and look at the stars together it serves as a reminder of the place we occupy in the universe and helps provide perspective.

Light pollution makes looking at the stars difficult in populated areas. Light pollution is the brightening of the night sky caused by streetlights and other man-made sources, which inhibits the observation of stars and planets. (Definition from Oxford Dictionaries). Light pollution is represented on maps for star gazers to find the best places to look at the stars. This site one example of such a map.
