Strategy Without the Jargon

You finished the third quarter goals and started working on your org strategy with your leadership team. This strategy will help you make progress and achieve your goals for the next fiscal year.

Last year you and the team collectively spent 20+ hours creating the strategy and getting each and every word of your mission statement and vision just right. The year did not go as planned. Not all the team members were aligned, the strategy was clear to some and not clear to others and worst of all, your team took on more projects than it could let go. This year things will be different.

The One Thing to Focus on to Accomplish Anything

I have been in the “corporate” world for nearly 10 years and only recently arrived at an insight that I knew intellectually but have not actively put into practice. This story will sound familiar.

A new year is coming and the business needs to forecast and prepare for the future. Meetings start to spin up on reviewing or creating a strategy for the team. It takes weeks (sometimes months) to get everyone aligned and decide on a strategic direction, the north star, for the near future.

Mission and Purpose

A few weeks ago, my wife visited a doctor who, as part of the diagnosis, prescribed 3 months of the keto diet to replenish and reset enzymes in her liver that will appropriately regulate glucose in her body. This typically means one must eat 30 to 50 grams of total carbohydrates a day. This prescription requires my wife eat a total of 15 grams of carbohydrates each day. This is intense and very difficult. She is executing brilliantly and with a good attitude – she’s climbing a hard mountain and making tremendous progress.
