Junior high was a dark time for me in my life. I was young, didn’t feel confident in who I was, and was desperate to fit in and feel like I had friends. I felt depressed. Who I thought I should be was wildly different than what was being taught in my home. I was confused and frustrated.
The way we view the world has a significant role to play in how we act inside of it. There are a few key fundamental truths that ground me to help me feel like I can make a difference in the world.
One of these fundamental truths is this:
There can be no light without darkness. There can be no happiness without misery. There can be no justice without injustice. There can be no good without evil.
In junior high I chose light instead of darkness. I started to see clearly who I am and what I am capable of. I began to make different decisions. I found friends that brought me up rather than pull me down. The increased happiness was in direct contrast to the sadness I felt. I knew greater happiness because of my experience with the opposite.
The opposition I felt allowed me to grow. Opposition is not something that happens to some and not others but in fact is required for growth and happens to everyone. When you realize as a leader that opposition is required for growth it will change the way you lead.
My invitation to you is to choose the light. Recognize there is opposition and use it to grow. Write down an experience you have had where you have witnessed opposition in your life.
