Pause to Focus

If you have read any of my posts over the last few months then you’ll know I’ve been focusing my efforts and energy on four things: marriage, memories (with my family), health and home. This has proven to be a valuable activity and has been the catalyst for deeper reflection. This reflection has led to some changes I am making with my writing practice.

When I started my blog in July of 2020 I did so with the following intentions

  • Clarify my thoughts by being forced to write them down
  • Reason about my thoughts to strengthen my learning and thinking

In addition to these two intentions, I have always had a desire to someday write a book and I assumed that if I could keep the practice of writing regularly for long enough, I’d eventually have enough words to author a book.

Writing weekly (and drawing pictures) has expanded my understanding and helped me to learn more deeply. I recommend a regular practice of writing to anyone who wants to learn and become a stronger leader.

As I have reflected on over three years of writing I realized it is time for me to adjust my practice. I have no intention of giving up writing and it is time for me to focus.

To date, my writing has been based on observations I’ve had and insights that have led to new ways of thinking for me. This has served me well but now is the time for me to narrow down what I can offer and contribute to the world. My last blog post really struck me as I was creating the image. I am a squiggly circle that with iteration and depth can become a sharp, clear, and clean circle.

It is time for me to share and develop the intersection between leadership, learning, and unchanging “laws” that apply to all situations.

I will no longer be writing on a regular cadence (including my newsletter) but rather write what feels focused and helps me to develop my core thesis on leadership. I don’t know what it is quite yet, and I know I have many puzzle pieces.

With this new focus I also plan to go deeper into relationships. How might I be able to strengthen relationships that will enable continued growth in myself and augment my contributions to the world?

If you are interested in the space of leadership, learning, and laws and want to build something amazing, let’s talk. The world needs those of us that can bring these ideas together.
