A few weeks ago, I learned of something that intuitively makes sense but caused me to reflect.

In the context of AI you have two tensions at play. You have precision and you have power. If you want a chatbot AI (like ChatGPT or BingChat) to be precise and accurate all of the time then you have to sacrifice some of the potential power to get the repeatability.

How to Get Faster Results

Here is a brief tale (but actually a real story) of one meeting, two presenters, and the energy flow of all involved.

The first presenter articulated with precision a customer need. A solution was presented, and a story was told on how the team overcame obstacles on behalf of the customer. The content was compelling and the one leading the solution was confident and strong.

The second presenter shared a challenge the organization faces and made a case for the value of solving this problem to the organization. This project was in an earlier stage so there were not as many details of obstacles that were overcome but the one leading the project was experienced, influential, and trusted.

Boundary Conditions are Preventing Your Growth

If you have ever worked at a major corporation, you certainly have dealt with an expense policy for the company. Expense policies are typically designed to protect the firm from financial risk. The firm decides what risk they are willing to tolerate and applies boundary conditions for how company money can be spent. 

I have started to take an interest in systems thinking and I have heard the following quote (or something like it) repeated many times.

Caring vs Business Results

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect nearly every individual on the planet in some form or another. This has required a different approach to leading people. In my interactions with leaders, I have uncovered a perceived tension between caring for team members and keeping those same team members accountable for business results.
