Throughout my career I have viewed leadership through many different lenses. I felt like I needed to work hard to “convince” someone to give me the authority to lead a group. Permission and/or authority do not make a leader.
Leadership does not require title or authority. Leadership is a practice; it is the work to be done.
If I want to be a leader, I need to do the things leaders do. To be clear, this does not mean, do what people in authority positions do, but do the things that true leaders do. True leaders help individuals work through tough challenges and help them thrive.
What this means to me is that everyone can become a leader. It does not matter where you come from, what job you have, what title you possess. All that matters is you practice leadership by helping others to work through tough challenges and thrive.
Who do you know that is a true leader?
I invite you to share with me their names and what it was that made them a leader. For bonus points, I invite you to reach out and say thank you to those true leaders in your life.
