2022 Year in Review

It is only appropriate that I report back on my becoming list for 2022 and then share the new list of what I would like to become.

Rather than goals I want to strive to become something. My actions are a reflection of who I am and who I am becoming.

Here is last year:

I want to become …By …ReportLearning
A runnerRunning 12 miles per week519 / 624When you make a decision and commit, it is easier than make the decision over and over again. I ran nearly every week and health impacted my ability to run some days/weeks.
A writerWriting a blog post each week49 / 52I fell short in the month of November when I got sick and then had surgery in December that slowed me down more than expected. These are not excuses, I need to plan ahead for things like this so next year I am fully consistent with 52 posts for the year.
Post to LinkedIn/Twitter twice a week49 / 104I found it difficult to stay on top of this. I need to have a more intentional approach to sharing on social media.
A better leaderDocumenting / recording 100 leadership behaviors from interviews and research My source of interviews were disrupted by things at Microsoft. I lost track of this goal. I need to have reminders of my goals and status.
A better husband / fatherTaking my wife on a formal date once a month58 / 12This matters and I need more dates to stay close and connected to my wife to tackle life challenges together.
Taking each of my kids on a “date” once a monthKid 1:
13 / 12 Kid 2:
11 / 12 Kid 3:
8 / 12
My outings with my kids were intended to strengthen our relationship. The outings were wonderful (and not consistent month over month) but something different is needed to strengthen our relationship.
A man known for having courageDoing something that scares me. This year will be to make 4 offers to sell something I have created.0/4I assumed making offers was going to be the best way for me to start a side hustle. I have learned more about side hustles and have a different approach now. I also learned, like a previous learning, a reminder of goals and status throughout the year is needed.
A man known for having faithWriting a summary of my scripture study each week to share with my family.7/52I was overly ambitious with my writing goal. The time I have is limited and I found other ways to demonstrate faith that I did not track.
A man known for having integrityKeeping my writing goals and sharing publicly if I fall short so I can get back up and keep going. This blog post is me sharing publicly where I fell short.

I plan to focus on living a healthy life this year. This means I’m breaking my healthy life down to five buckets and an intention for each.

BucketIntention
SpiritualStrengthen my capacity to receive revelation
PhysicalBe in the best shape of my life
MentalReduce distractions
Family RelationshipsStrengthen my relationships with loved ones
ProfessionalShare what I love with the world

Good behavior change would not be complete without specific measures for each of these. I have them and for simplicity’s sake I will not share them. If you are interested in my measures, I am happy to share them with you one on one.

What have you learned this year? Take time this week to reflect on the year and share with someone at least one thing you would like to become.
