Beauty in Erosion

Saint George Utah, about 2 hours outside of Las Vegas, is where I call home and there are beautiful red rocks and cliffs all around. The rocks and cliffs would not be beautiful if they were all the same.

It is the erosion and weathering that makes them unique. If all the mesas and cliffs were uniform then it would be boring, uninteresting, and uninspiring.

The same goes for people. If we were all the same, we would lose beauty. As I reflect on the beauty of the rocks and cliffs it reminds me to appreciate the uniqueness in others. Life erodes each one of us in diverse ways and that reveals beauty.

Next time you are frustrated with someone because of their behavior, slow down. Pause and take a minute to remember that we are all unique and weathered by the difficulties of life and there is greatness in beauty in the way each of us show up. Focus on that benefit and we’ll all be better off.
