Fear vs Purpose

This week I listened as leaders shared deep core fears they hold. There were fears of not belonging, not being loved. Fears not being safe or secure. Fears of rejection and judgment. As we discussed these fears and wrestled with them insights started to emerge.

The fears that they carry are getting in the way of the next best action they need to take to make progress in their life. The fear is driving their behavior.

Leadership Definition

There is no shortage of books, articles, and research papers on the concept of leadership. It is a massive area of study for academics and practitioners alike. Despite the size of the field, there is no common definition for leadership. Consider a few that I have collected, some of which are quite terrible. I will let you be the judge.

Drawing the Perfect Unicorn

A few days ago I watched my daughter as she attempted to draw a picture of a unicorn. After a few pencil lines she would crumple the paper and start over on a new sheet of paper. I soon learned she wanted the picture of her unicorn to be perfect and if it wasn’t perfect she didn’t want to keep it.

Gratitude

For the days leading up to Thanksgiving I have been keeping a gratitude journal and have found it to change my mood and I feel happier. This is remarkable because I feel like my wife and I are still reeling from having a baby 11 weeks ago. This has led to a lack of sleep, decreased energy, focus, and attention.
